Andreas Rocha

This painting (used to be here) makes me want to write a story.  It immediately engenders a subtext of two civilizations: one who lives a precarious life upon a luscious cliffside land that is barely large enough to provide the needs of their growing society and another race of perhaps humanoid creatures who survive in the shadowy undergrowth.  The first is constantly on the watch for signs or evidence of the shadowy civilizations efforts to encroach upon their choice, yet precarious existence … Stylistically, Rocha commonly paints landscapes at angles to make them more interesting; he also combines unlikely landscape ideas with enough realism to make you believe that he may just be painting some remote area of our own planet – and anyone who does a little research knows that there are plenty of those to draw inspiration from – so that makes his paintings all the more intriguing.

As an author, I’m always on the look for something beautiful, exciting, or mysterious – something that captures my imagination to inspire a story.  I’ve heard many authors share their sources of inspiration and I’m always surprised how few of them are inspired by visual things like I am.  I could spend all day looking at deviantart.com (sensitive readers: keep your filters active on their site) without failing to find pictures that will likely make me come up with stories that will eventually make it to paper.

Anyone have some pictures to share?

I definitely have one to share – I don’t know the artist though. I think his name is Tes Akizhao. I’ll post it in a minute.
